Saving money on your heating and Electricity bills

Saving money on your heating and Electricity bills

I have come across two nifty little gadgets that can reduce you annual heating and electric bill.

The first gadget could save you up to £140 a year on your heating bill, and with the frost cold night with us this is a highly recommended product as not only does it save you money it helps to heat your room up quicker. It works by using a fan to spread the warmth more evenly around the room, thus reducing / eliminating cold spots and creating a convection system in the room. They also reduce the amount of heat being lost into the wall behind the radiator. Unfortunately they are they suitable for electric/ oil filled radiators. These radiator boosters have featured on Dragon’s Den and at the current low price they are a worthwhile investment.

The second gadget The Energy Wizard will knock up to 10% off your electricity bill just by pulling it in. I won’t go into all the technical stuff here (if you want to read about it you can here) all I can say is that it works by improving your electricity supply.

I am sorry but I do not know if these are available outside of the UK.

Money saving tips for grocery shopping

How not to buy more stuff than you need.

Ok so it is grocery shopping time, and you are on a budget and need to keep a tight reign on what you are spending. You also know that you nearly always buy more than you need from the grocery store, no matter how good your intentions are. There are good reason why you buy more than you need.

The supermarkets and grocery stores have spent decades researching the psychology of grocery shopping and it is now a perfected science. When you go grocery shopping it is a sensory experience for most people, with all the different colours and smells and the stores are laid out specifically to utilise these to entice you to spend more than you need to.

For example the meat and diary products (items that just about everyone needs) are always at the back of the store, so that to get too them you have go down the other aisles and the chances are that something will catch your eye and you will end up buying it.

The colourful stuff is generally near the entrance making the store feel welcoming and drawing you in again you will probably look at something here that you do not need but chances are you will buy something. Also as you move along the aisles the branded products are at your eye level whilst the cheaper store brand ed products are on the lower shelves.

Hopefully this post has given you a little bit of knowledge of how consumer grocery marketing works, and armed with this knowledge you will be able to avoid buying more than you need or better still not buying stuff you don’t want at all. Two tricks to help with this make a list before you get to the store and then stick to it.

Creating A Budget For Yourself Can Dramatically Improve Your Debt Issues

The following is an article that was written by someone else but I think is a very good read ( if anyone knows who wrote this please contact me so I can give proper credit)

Figuring out a budget is something that too many people have difficulty with and there is definitely no doubt about that. Unfortunately people, including myself, are just not educated enough about finding debt relief by having the ability to properly manage a well balanced budget. Following a strict budget each month or week, however you would want to do it, is no doubt the best way for everyone to improve their debt condition.

This is something that you should all really have already started thinking about because knowing how to manage your money properly and being consistent with it, will drastically pay off down the road. You will finally be able to enjoy your life completely, without all of the worries that come along for anyone who is just totally overloaded with debt over debt over debt.

Your budget will make it possible for you to recognize that you can survive every single month, not just survive though, much better than that, you could potentially have a little bit of extra money each and every month! How fabulous would that be people? You know you want it, you know you are exhausted thinking about your debt, so get up off that couch and stop pitying yourself, try fixing your debt problems instead of forgetting about them!

Allow your budget to work for you, no matter what might come up unexpectedly. If you can do this month after month, I do believe that you are just really going to be shocked by the wonderful results. You will have so much more confidence each day just knowing that you can make it on your own, you are a responsible, mature and highly intelligent individual. Learning about managing your money and following strict budgets at an early age in life sure did pay off for you as an adult, aren't you so proud of yourself!

Most of us do have a great deal in common unfortunately, whenever it comes to spending more money than we can truly afford to spend each month and it is definitely a very serious problem, or could eventually become a serious debt concern of yours. Creating this amazing budget for yourself can dramatically improve your severe debt issues for good, how fantastic does that sound?

Take the time out of your busy and very hectic schedule, sit down, take a deep breath and prepare yourself for this fun and exciting learning experience. You will learn so much about yourself once you have prepared a budget for yourself, to follow each and everyday that passes, that is going to rid you from all your debt. It will definitely be an eye opener for many of you out there that tend to go a little overboard from time to time when you are out shopping around for things.

Debt is your worst enemy so if you can do anything at all to prevent this from occurring with you all throughout your fun life, start at an early age figuring out how you will follow your budget each month and make it work.

Money Saving Tips for the New Year

Money Saving Tips for the New Year

Wherever possible bulk cook things such as soups, lasagna and casseroles and the freeze portions for later use.

Buy meat in bulk and stock up your freezer, freezing individual portions so that you only have to defrost and cook what you need rather than all at once.

Buy loose fruit and vegetables rather than pre-packed it is cheaper that way. Buy fruit and vegetables in season as they are then at their cheapest, if they can be frozen for future use do so.

Rather than buying on credit save up for the item you want, it saves the big interest payments on the purchases and you will feel good too.

Do you really need that gym membership? Why not use the park or go to work on your push bike! Or download exercise videos for use in your own home.

Use the coupons that come through your door each week, but only if you need the item that the coupon is for!. Also look for coupons online for products that you use. Then compare the reduced cost to the stores on brand to see which is the cheaper.

Take a packed lunch to work or school rather than us the restaurant or the sandwich van. Not only will it be a faction of the cost but will most likely be healthier too!

What recurring monthly subscriptions are you not using? Check any cancellation clauses and then cancel them.

These are just a few of the money saving tips that you can use in the New Year to save yourself a bundle of cash.

Longest ever 0% and new FSCS limits

From today the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) upper limit rises from £50,000 to £85,000, this is per person per institution. But there are some points to note the maximum per person is £160k ie just two accounts so if you have your money spread to minimise the risk it is now worthwhile looking at combining some accounts up to the maximum £85k to get the best rate of return.

Some EU banks are not fully UK regulated and hence are not covered by the UK scheme e.g. ING Direct is Regulated in Holland.

Also the scheme is per institution so sister banks that share a banking licence are considered to be one institution e.g. Halifax and Bank of Scotland share a licence, so total protection's £85,000 for all accounts in both. Where as sister banks NatWest and RBS have separate licences so you get £85,000 in EACH.

Apparently the 1st of January each year is the day that most people feel depressed about their finances so why not make your New Year’s resolution to take control of your finances in 2011.

In the UK the 4th of January sees the VAT tax rise from 17.5% to 20% so if you have any large ticket items that you need to buy now is a good time to do so as you have the January sales on and you will beat the tax hike, just remember that it is only a bargain if you can afford it and not push you into more debt than you can cope with.

Barclaycard are giving new platinum card members the longest 0% interest debt shifting deal I have ever seen a whopping 17 months for a fee of just 2.9% on balance transfers. Also if you transfer more than £3,000 you get a £20 rebate. This offer is only open to new card members who must earn a min of £20k per year and pass a full credit check. Also remember to pay the min payment each month else you will lose the 0%.

Keep Warm and Save Money

Here in the UK with the current cold weather set to continue here are some tips to help keep warm while keeping the cost of heating your house down.

Eliminate draughts and wasted heat by installing a cheap, easy-to-fix brush or PVC seal on your exterior doors.

Letterboxes and keyholes should be covered, too, and do not leave the front door open more than necessary.

Draughts also get in through gaps in floorboards and skirting boards, which allows heat to escape in the winter months. Filling them with newspaper, beading or sealant will help you stop throwing heat (and your money) away.

An insulating jacket for a hot water tank only costs a few pounds and pays for itself within months. Fit one that is at least 75mm (3") thick and start saving both money and carbon.

Insulating your loft is one of the simplest ways to save energy. By installing loft insulation to a depth of at least 270mm (10").

Around 33% of the heat lost in your home is through the walls, so insulating them can be one of the most cost-effective way to save energy in the home.

Cavity wall insulation will also keep you cool in the summer and warm in winter. It's straight forward, inexpensive and hassle-free.

5 Steps to save money on Holiday Gifts

If you are worried about the cost of buying all those holiday gifts etc. here are 5 steps you can take to keep those costs down.

1. Set expectations with friends and family. Let them know if you'll be cutting back on the number of gifts or how much you plan to spend. This is especially important for children, who often have unrealistic expectations about gifts and don't fully understand the cost factors. Also consider price-limited charitable donations in the family's name.

2. Look for ways to cut back on the number of gifts you buy. There are many ways to shorten your gift list. If you have a large family or group of friends, ask if they'd like to draw names out of a hat and give one gift per person. Or give family gifts, such as a board game, a "movie night" with gift certificates to a video rental store and snacks, or a pass to a local museum rather than individual gifts.

3. Consider homemade gifts. There are many heartfelt, thoughtful gifts that don't come with a sales receipt. You could cook some treats; put together a photo album; make a themed gift basket full of smaller items, like tea, paperback books or gardening tools; or give the gift of your time by making homemade coupons or certificates. There are some ideas on Christmas Decorations.

4. Make a shopping plan. Don't head out to the mall without a specific list of gift ideas. This is how you end up spending more than you budgeted for. Look through catalogues or on Internet sites for ideas and develop a list before you even step foot in a store.

5. Look for bargains. Take the time to look for ways to save money on gifts. Try to buy several things from one catalogue or Internet site to save money on shipping, or better yet, look for sites that offer free shipping. Comparison shop using the fliers that come in the weekend papers to find the best deal around or use websites that do price comparisons for you.

Happy Holiday Shopping

5 Tips for saving cash in 2011

1. The use of scoial media has exploded over the last few years and many brands are now using sites such as facebook to increase their brand awareness. You can get the inside information on upcoming savings by liking their fan pages etc. Another good one is @earlybird on twitter.

2. There are any number of sites that are now providing free samples or add free sample to your order, some of the best are www.gwpaddict.wordpress.com, Freebies4Mom.com, FreeStuffTimes.com, FreeMania.net, and ThunderFap.com.

3. If you have a smart phone there are apps that you can use to scan the bar code while you are in the shop and it will then compare the price in the shop with prices online.

Get paid for searching the internet.

Wouldn't you like a share of the advertising revenue generated by the search engines? Well now you can, Home Page Friends have created a way that you can get a share of that money, just by doing what you do already; searching the internet. And the best bit it is totally free!

Now I'll be honest here this isn't going to make your fabulously wealthy, but tell me who wouldn't like another £50 to £300 free for doing what you already do? And as John Thornhill would say it is another income stream and many small ones build up to make a large one.

There is a second way of earning an income from Home Page Friends and that is by referring other people. And the site makes this easy to do. Once you have set up your account go to the "My Administration" page and on the right hand side you will see a button "Earn More Money". Click this and the simply enter your friends email addresses and they will recieve an email inviting them to join. Then when they search you get a percentage of their search revenues too.

Setting up the account is simple, it took me abour 3 minutes from start to finish, the instructions on the website are clear and simple to follow.

Now there is a small drawback as this search engine is in it's youth the returns are not always as comprehensive as say Yahoo but for most common searchs it is more than adequate. If you don't find what you are looking for you can always use Google or Yahoo.

To get your account set up goto www.myhpf.co.uk and start getting a share of that search engine revenues.

In the news...

A new mentoing Program - that doesn't break the bank

In the news this month is John Thornhill's new 'Planetsms Digital Monthly Mentorship'
I've taken a look at this the sales page gives a lot of detail as to what John is doing
See it here http://www.simonegansmith.com/recommends/planetsms
And frankly - I would recommend checking it out.

To have someone like John teaching and showing the exact strategies he actually uses to generate multiple streams of income alone is worth the $10 price tag.
He offers a money back guarantee, but goes one better with the rest of the benefits offered,

A big one for me is the chance to have him help members create their own products by following along with what he teaches, and then To Promote Their Products to his 28,000+ list.

This would surely give any marketer new or experienced a helpful boost to sales or even the turbo charged start to their list building. Establishing their own online business.

With question and answer sessions, personal help from John, and a host of other benefits.
I can't imagine anyone not getting excited enough to join.

The video newsletter I've seen outlined a particular strategy in such detail I doubt anyone wouldn't be able to set up an identical campaign... I think a few more experienced marketers will soon hear about it and be implementing it themselves.

The BIG news about this program compared to many others has to be the price though.
In fairness - the quality is second to none from what I've seen already ...

But to charge only $10 really must give every new and previously scammed, frustrated, challenged or otherwise not yet succeeding at making money online, marketer a real sense of hope.

It's not going to be long before you'll see many many people talking about this program.

If you'll take my advice - I'd go and get in now
http://www.simonegansmith.com/recommends/planetsms before John's having to turn people away.

A real newsworthy site in my opinion.
If you've tried and failed and been praying for a break ..... you've just been answered!
So get over there while it's still breaking news.

Do you, like me keep hearing that the money is in the list?

And it is certainly true that if you have your own list of subscribers / purchasers then they are more likely to spend money on what you have to offer. But what happens if you don’t have your own list? Well you can put up a website or a blog and get people to subscribe to your newsletters etc. and this is a must do if you want to be successful online. The downside to this is that it can take some to build up a substantial list. However there are programs available that you can join that already have a number of subscribers that you can then use as your list.

These programs offer many different ways of using them but essentially they all have one thing in common and that is you can email a certain number of subscribers at a set frequency depending on your own membership level.

I have listed here the ones that I have used for the past year or so with some success, there are others that I have tried but had no success with so I have not listed them.

List Bandit This gives you three lists and has both free and pro membership.
Listdotcom This list has over 100.000 subscribers and again has both free and pro membership.
List Joe Again this has both free and pro membership.
List Auction Another list builder that has worked well for me.

These are just four of the many list builders available, that I have used and have had success with, I hope that you do to.

Happy list building.

Making Money On The Internet

Making Money On The Internet

Today there are many ways to make money using the Internet, some are very elaborate while others are simple but they all have one thing in common they all need to be worked. Two of the easiest ways of making money on the internet are google adsense and affiliate marketing. Google adsense is where you allow Google to place ads on your website and you get paid whenever one of your site visitors clicks on an ad. Affiliate amrketing is where you sell someone elses product and get a commission on the sale. This is a good way to start if you do not have your own product. The down side to both of these is that you need to have a website up and running and then you need to get visitors to that website.

This morning I received an email from my good friend John Thornhill, which contain an offer that removes the first of those downside, the website. Basically they are giving away ready made websites, one per month. These sites are ready to go and are professionally designed, so that all you need to do is send traffic to them. Visit myfreewebsites.com for more details.

How I reduced my electricity usage by 10% and didn’t really notice the changes.

How I reduced my electricity usage by 10% and didn’t really notice the changes.

Below I have listed some simple yet effective steps that have reduced by electricity usage from an average of 10 KwH to 9 KwH per day.

1. As my old style bulbs blew I replaced them with the new low energy equivalents.

2. Did I really need three electric clocks in the Kitchen one on the windowsill, one inbuilt in the cooker and one inbuilt in the Microwave. Answer no so the cooker and microwave get turned off completely when not in use.

3. Turning the lights off when leaving a room.

4. Completely turning off items that go into standby when not in use, e.g. the television, DVD player, the wireless modem etc.

5. Only boiling enough water for the amount of drinks I was making instead of filling the kettle up.

As you can see not a big list but an easy one to do, but with a significant result, which has offset the continual rise in electricity costs. The hardest part was getting started and rembering to do it,now it is second nature.

Taking Control of your Financial Situation

Now having spent some time looking into this subject while everyone has different ideas on which is the best vehicle to achieve financial independence (and they cannot agree on what that term means) they agree on two things 1 it starts with a state of mind and 2 you must pay yourself first.

What do they mean by a state of mind? Well it is making a conscious decision that you are in control of your financial situation and no one else. Now this may seem hard to accept when everything is falling down around you. But you and you alone are in control and responsible for your financial situation. This is not a lecture it is meant to show you that until now you were not aware of this. To give an example: you are in a well paid job and have spent and used credit to have a nice house a nice car or two and expensive holidays. Who made the decision to spend the money? Then you are told that your company is closing down and you are no longer required. Who has a care about your debts? Only you and those you owe.

The second point is much less emotive but can be much harder to action. Paying yourself first. This means taking 10% of your gross earnings and putting that into some form of investment, e.g. a savings account or stock and shares. Now a lot you will probably be thinking the same as I did when I first heard this idea “how the …..am I going to get 10% when I can’t even make ends meet now”. Well hopefully over time you will find some of the answers to that question in this blog, as I go through this process myself.

So here are some ideas to get you started.

1 Do you smoke? Now don’t panic I’m not on an anti-smoking campaign, but could you smoke one less a day?

2 Is that chocolate bar from the mobile sandwich van really necessary?

3 Only fill the kettle with enough water for the number of drinks you are making (or to cover the element)

4 got some spare space in your garden why not grow your own vegetables www.growingyourownveg.com has some great ideas on this.

Money Saving Tips

No matter where we are in life we could all do with some help in money saving/money making. Here I will report on any ideas, tips, advice I come accross for money saving / money making
